Unicom Frequency

New at Milton Peter Prince

The new Unicom frequency of 122.975 mhz has been granted by the FCC and is active.  This frequency should have little to no interference from other UNICOMS.

In addition, the SuperUNICOM functionality has been added. (See below). It will take a period of time to change the airport lighting to 122.975.  The lighting is active on 122.8 and a NOTAM has been issued to that effect.

As of 3/08/05 operation of the Peter Prince runway/taxiway and PAPI lights is as follows:

The lights are on a photocell and operated on 122.975.

The PAPI lights are operating 24/7.

Daylight operation of the runway/taxiway lights.   Seven (7) clicks will activate the runway/taxiway lights.

Nighttime operation--3, 5 or 7 clicks will activate the runway/taxiway lights on Low, Medium, and High.

 SuperUNICOM

An automated UNICOM provides all the functionality of a standard UNICOM, but with some significant enhancements.

An automated greeting may be received when you initially contact the UNICOM:

"Good morning. This is ABC Field automated advisory. Wind xxx at xx; altimeter xxxxx.        Caution: crosswind. Conditions favor Runway 10. For Runway listen to traffic. For further services click your mike three times for an advisory, four times for a radio check."

Three clicks will get you an advisory. Four clicks will get you a radio check. (The radio check will be an echo readback of your call requesting the radio check.)

Significant conditions, such as possible ground fog, crosswind, wind shear, and high density altitude may be received.

"ABC Field updated advisory. Wind now xxx at xx. Caution: crosswind, windshear."

Automated UNICOMS operate on normal UNICOM frequencies. They should not be cause for any change in any assigned Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF).
